The State Of Play
How we got here
The story of the state election is that Labor’s vote is down in Darebin. But people don’t want to go to the Green’s, they are going to independents.
Unfortunately, at the local council level, preferencees for independents just get sprayed evenly amongst the candidates, or even favor the Greens. This is often the case even if the Independent’s policies are aligned with Labor values.
The reason for this is that Independent candidates often lack the resources to have enough volunteers handing out how-to-vote cards at all of the polling places that helps direct preferences to where they need to go.
Darebin Independent Volunteers (DIV) is a not for profit group that is trying to change this by supporting Independent candidates that align with ALP values.
DIV is looking for volunteers who can spare a few hours on Election Day (26 October 2024) to help hand out How-to-Vote cards.

Helping out on Election Day is the BEST way to ensure the Greens don’t hold the balance of power in Darebin into the future.
